I never watch the story in a game. If their isn’t fucking or violence in it I can’t watch it, it bores me to tears. I don’t know how people watch action movies like oceans 11 either. Nor play red dead redemption 2. I just want to duck the hookers.
It just sounds to me like you play shitting games so you have to go "thrill chasing" in them because outside of fast paced action and explosions you don't actually like the game at all.
Most of the games that I like (action rpgs) are enjoyable because of the story, the world building, the information you get about different bosses, factions, enemies, etc (THE LORE). The detailed class system, the loot, your strategy, etc.
The gameplay being good is what amplifies all these things, it's what creates true immersion with a game to where you "forget yourself" and you start playing 8AM in the morning, and then you only feel hungry at 6PM and realize that you haven't moved from your seat all day, and you wonder where all the hours went lol.
I am greedy as hell, and playing some games have let me forget about hunger and almost starve the entire day. You don't even notice the time passing, because you go from fighting, to reading lore, to leveling your character, to customizing, etc, etc, etc, it's never repetative, it never gets boring, because there's so many things to immerse you in the game.
You don't get that level of immersion with the games you are playing. When a gaming experience is that good graphics barely matters. I've never played diablo 2 but I can tell it's one of those games.
I haven't played any games in years because there's more important things I have to focus on right now, but once I have my life in order I will definitely return to game, and I will be starting this shit off by playing my favorite action rpgs. Another great thing about the genre is re-playability.
