Whenever I found myself in a new environment with people I didn't know, I spotted individuals who are not too repulsed by my appearance, tried to make them feel comfortable around me, found if we had anything in common. Once holding a conversation becomes natural I expose them slowly to true me, if they still like me we usually become friends.
