.. Ukraine ?

@WizardofSoda - it seems that the WH isn't sure if they should say "we're training Umrainians" or "no Americans should go to Ukraine". Because clearly, people are going and then getting caught and sentenced to death or just missing. The confusion surrounding how American citizens are being given a travel permit to volunteer in Ukraine sperate of the publically issued statments is.. well.. confusing...

The US/UK governments are starting to say they don't want their citizens going to the front unless they are already integrated with a regular Ukrainian army unit.

Instead they want volunteers to work on the very large operation moving supplies in from Poland and Romania and possibly driving supplies deep into Ukraine but not near to the frontlines. This way they can help keep watch on the supplies and also have some low risk of getting killed by like cruise missile attacks on military depots. The US isn't worried about them getting killed its the getting captured.

In the US army it is 83% of the personnel are non-combat soldiers. Some examples with artillery. Much of the artillery battle is this continuing supply of shells and propelling charges to the frontline artillery. Then there is getting fuel and other supplies to the artillery crew like when they are driving the big truck towing the artillery, and also with it is another truck often that carries shells and supplies. The full US systems also have counter battery radar trucks, command and control trucks. Then the crews for those need supplies.

Then after so many shots artillery barrels need replacing or retrofitting as they get worn out. Then there is parts get broken in use or partially damaged by fragments of enemy shells. So then there is a whole operation of the repair depots and them stocked with tools and spare parts. The heavy trucks also need repairs and servicing from time to time.

Just the depots for the shells and propellant charges, the Ukrainians need like underground bunkers that go deep and you can drive down into them with heavy trucks, and multiple entrances/exits. But that takes a lot of big construction equipment and repair stuff for the construction equipment. They can also build these like Earth pyramids and have the storage depots in those.

Yeah. But initially they supported Ukraine almost unconditionally in spirit, yet assume people won't go try to be heros and write a chapter of their lives by way of using the war effort. It's just kek. People volunteering and then getting sentenced to death after capture. There were two others who got captured and their story ended this way. Now the families of the captured and begging Russia for their release. Doubt it will happen. Freaking Zelensky War.

Russian cruise missiles but no US/EU support via cruise missiles right? Is this making a big difference now or not?

Haha. Yes this.
