On my paternal side: my grandpa and great-grandpa fought in the Vietnam War and the Pacific Theater of WW2 respectively. I know my great-great-grandfather was in the Army in WW1, but other than that, I don't know what he did. According to my grandfather, our ancestors fought for the Union during the Civil War.
Would make sense, would have been interesting if my ancestors from the NE would have fought in the same regiment, company, etc. as yours.
On my maternal side: My great-grandfather served in the Czechoslovakian army when the country was occupied by Germany in 1938. He was peacefully disarmed and discharged along with the rest of his unit. He spent the entirety of WW2 as a civilian. My great-great-grandfather was in the Austro-Hungarian army during WW1 and fought on the Eastern Front.
That's pretty interesting man, pretty cool to hear
I used to have a lot of interest in Austria-Hungary, especially when I used to play BF1 a lot from 2017-2020ish
Such a unique country, which could have been saved with the American model imo. I think this is a point of TL-191 jfl
I probably had ancestors involved in ancient jeetnigger wars, but nothing in recent history
Some of mine fought in the Norman conquest I think.
One of my ancestors was in china during the boxer rebellion.
Based tbh, which expedition?
I find it hard to imagine at least one of them didn't fight in the world wars.
Yeah would make sense given how climactic the region was at the time.
Probably, the WWII soldier's memorial in the village my father's from has the name of some guy with our surname there, but I have no idea who it was.
Hmmm, I think it was common for men from the same village to have the same last name
I wonder if any fought under Austria-Hungary? I mean its plausible
I also recall reading a few times that due to the diversity of languages in regiments they had issues organizing which cost them during the war.
