Can also count if they were just in the military I guess and never saw any actual fighting

I know of some who fought in WWI as I stated, as well as through the civil war

My grandparents were also in the military, I guess I kind of am from a military family in way.

not that i know of

My great grandpa fought for the Austrian empire during ww1

Yes, my cousin is part of Al Qaeda militia in Somalia

Someone in my family got killed in WW1 in France fighting the Germans not sure of the exact relation but judging from his army photo he looks exactly like my dad.

I can only recall that my maternal great-grandpa was in the Wehrmacht

Austro-Hungarian*

@WorthlessSlavicShit

And nice mang, I was about to say nice to meet a fellow descendent of a Central Power, but that was just my alt history self talkin’ :feelshaha:

I probably had ancestors involved in ancient jeetnigger wars, but nothing in recent history

On my paternal side: my grandpa and great-grandpa fought in the Vietnam War and the Pacific Theater of WW2 respectively. I know my great-great-grandfather was in the Army in WW1, but other than that, I don't know what he did. According to my grandfather, our ancestors fought for the Union during the Civil War.

On my maternal side: My great-grandfather served in the Czechoslovakian army when the country was occupied by Germany in 1938. He was peacefully disarmed and discharged along with the rest of his unit. He spent the entirety of WW2 as a civilian. My great-great-grandfather was in the Austro-Hungarian army during WW1 and fought on the Eastern Front.

Probably, the WWII soldier's memorial in the village my father's from has the name of some guy with our surname there, but I have no idea who it was.

I know my grandfather was in the air force but I don't recall any my family mentioning what he actually did or if he ever deployed. A lot of my mother's family was from eastern and central Europe before they immigrated here. I find it hard to imagine at least one of them didn't fight in the world wars.

I‘m fighting a brutal War every day in my head

One of my ancestors was in china during the boxer rebellion.

I also have one that was in the navy during WW2 ,after it was over he fished sea mines out of the water.

One part of my family was apparently also in the SS but we dont know anything about that because my family split apart during that time.

Would make sense, would have been interesting if my ancestors from the NE would have fought in the same regiment, company, etc. as yours. :feelsmega:

That's pretty interesting man, pretty cool to hear

I used to have a lot of interest in Austria-Hungary, especially when I used to play BF1 a lot from 2017-2020ish

Such a unique country, which could have been saved with the American model imo. I think this is a point of TL-191 jfl

Some of mine fought in the Norman conquest I think.

Based tbh, which expedition?

Yeah would make sense given how climactic the region was at the time.

Hmmm, I think it was common for men from the same village to have the same last name

I wonder if any fought under Austria-Hungary? I mean its plausible

I also recall reading a few times that due to the diversity of languages in regiments they had issues organizing which cost them during the war.

Yes actually many of them. My great grandfather was a bomber in WWII (fighting Germany). He had a lot of guilt about innocent people he likely dropped bombs on. My grandfather fought in Vietnam, and his brother fought in the Korean war where he was a mortar launcher.
I have an uncle and cousin who also fought in the Gulf Wars and initial invasion of Iraq and Afghanistan.

In the Iraq war they gave poker cards to military members so they would know who they needed to capture and kill. Uncle gave me those original cards I have them hiding somewhere.

My grandfather was in the legendary Wehrmacht.

Yes. One of my ancestors died during the second battle of the Piave in 1918.

I think that we all had (at least if you’re a slav or an european in general) ancestors that fought in WW1 or WW2.

Pancho villa is my uncle apparently

Recent relatives no. But I am from a military clan so ancestors might have seen some action.

Did your military clan win or lose more wars throught history?

Idk. Could very well be possible that the last time any of them fought was hundreds of years ago

True, but I don't think there's any more families there with our last name and his is the only such name there.

Very likely.

Yeah, I also read about that, I wonder how common and how serious of a problem that was.

Both my grandfathers in the Wehrmacht and my great grandfather in the SS

my dad served in lebanese war, brothers of grandpa in ww1 on ottoman side, and grandfather on other side in ussr side ww2
