10 inch height difference is approximately 3.4 standard deviations for white men (height diff btw 6'5 and 5'7 is 10 inches, 10/2.94 ≈ 3.4)

ex: a man with 6 PSL face but 5'4 or 5'3 height will have overal lower SMV than a man with 3 - 4 PSL face and 6'3 height

HEIGHT has a greater or equal effect on male SMV as does FACE, but only at lower than average heights (below 5'8)

But once that height threshold is passed (somewhere between 5'8 and 5'11), FACE has greater effect on male SMV than HEIGHT

ex: a man with 3 - 4 PSL face and 6'3 height will have overall lower SMV than a man with 7 PSL face and 5'10 height

I edited the line you quoted. I believe the average male height is 5'8 in North America and 5'10 in Europe

5'8 is surely the lower bound of the height interval between -1 SD and +1 SD for male populations in the west

Although the average male height is probably ower in other regions like India, East Asia and South East Asia; the face/height SMV dynamic may be different for those other regions where the average height is below 5'8 (HEIGHT has even greater impact on SMV for those regions)
