I think OP is referring to Jennifer Doudna, a biochemist at Berkeley.
There isn't one specific person or group who "discovered" CRISPR, in any case. It was a yearslong effort by many academic institutions.
I know about the case because there was a patent litigation case surrounding CRISPR between Berkeley vs Harvard and MIT, which I followed for a while.
It's the same shit as with that image of a black hole, credit given to a woman for the photo ops.
