I don't know much about immigration these days. I used to meet a lot of foreign students at summer jobs when I was younger. I don't know if being a student back home was a requirement, but I know some who came over with the temporary work visa and ended up staying. Funny enough, considering politics and the whole immigration issue, but I think it was the same type of visa Trump loved to use (think working summer jobs in hospitality, at resorts, etc). I don't know what it's like these days, but some transferred to US schools and others got sponsored by employers or wealthy friends to stay. But the jobs were things like cleaning hotel rooms, bussing tables, etc. Basically they gave out visas for any sort of restaurant/hotel/amusement park jobs and ran some scam where they had to say they couldn't fill these jobs locally.
