There are a lot of rumors that openai and google are panicking internally over this. I don't doubt it.

Also deepseek was clearly trained on openai's O1 model because it occasionally says its a model from openai when you ask it.

Either way, it's nice to see a decent LLM that's free and close to o1 level when it comes to most tasks. Less censorship too. Sam Altman recently announced that when o3-mini is released it will be available in free tier (though with a limited usage). I have no doubt this is a direct result of Deepseek since they never gave us o1-mini in free tier.
