Dear women of Afghanistan,
I understand that you are saddened by the sudden denial of a chance to learn and be educated. I really do. Education, especially for women, is a way to become independent and self-sufficient. It is also a tremendous joy to learn about the world, acquire new skills and expand your horizon.
It is the best way to become who you want to be.
The value of education can not be overestimate, be it on a societal or an individual level.
For these reasons it is only natural that you mourn the loss of this tremendous privilege, which you held until recently.
But just like any other privilege, you are just not entitled to it. It can be granted and it can be revoked at any time. You cannot force the state/law to provide it for you.
You may point at women elsewhere in the world and say “It’s not fair! Why can’t I have what they have?” but you should know that these women certainly have other struggles that you can’t possibly know of.
No, life is not fair and that’s ok. Because, unlike food, water or the noble Quran, an education is just not necessary for a good life.
In fact, it may even be harmful to that purpose. In their wisdom, your Taliban leaders have decided to shelter you from the vile ideas and messages that would surely corrupt you, should you ever decide to learn anything not connected to becoming a good wife and mother.
You might think this a tremendous loss and injustice, but this is just the old entitlement and childish immaturity speaking. Learn to let go!
Don’t get me wrong, of course you deserve a chance to expand your mind and get an education, everybody does. But that does not mean you are entitled to it. We all must make due with what the almighty has deemed to give us. And in your case, Allah has provided you with his written message delivered by the prophet (pbuh). It contains all the education you could ever ask for. You just have to acquire understanding.
For a young woman, there are many ways to live a happy, fulfilling life. Yes, even without an education. Why don’t you learn to cook, clean and be a good lover to your future husband? Surely, your entitlement will not let you think you are too good for that?
Many afghani women, older and wiser than you, will confirm that such a lifestyle will provide happiness second only to the joys of Jannah.
So don’t cry, little girl, instead seek solace in the arms of your 40 years older cousin/husband.
Peace be upon you, sister.
