What is sexual selection?

Example 1: The antlers of a stag. Stags use thier antlers for strength contests. Longer and stronger antlers increase prowess in competition with members of the same sex allowing them to secure more females.
Example 2: The long extravagant tails of peacocks. A feature that is harmful to the individual's own survival making it more likely to attract predators. However it signals to the female that there must be other compensatory traits (e.g. superior strength, intelligence) allowing the male to survive to the age of mating. The female perceives this as attractiveness (good genes.)
What was Darwin's theory of sexual selection?
Darwin had theorized in populations with high male to female ratio, high competition for mating between males would drive sexual selection. He had hypothesized in a situation with excess males and a shortage of females, the males with less desirable traits would have worse chances of mating and thus sexual selection would intensity.
What do new studies show?
New studies reveal sexual selection is more pronounced when there is a high female to male ratio. This is because sexual selection is a system in which winner takes all no matter the number of male competitors. Therefore the more females in a population, the more potential partners the top male(s) has access to.
Conclusion:
Chad fucks all. The less male competition he faces the more easily he can pass on his superior genes to as many females as possible who will all willingly share him.
