Capitalists wanted to expand the labour force to reduce the bargaining power of workers, reduce worker cohesion and cut wages. Half of the potential labour force (women) was doing domestic labour at home, so in order to secure them as workers and cheapen labour, they needed to give them the illusion of having a voice by giving them the vote.
