I clicked on this video because I care(d) a lot about what critics say since they are the ones shaping your impression of a game (at least for me), and I'm looking for great sources of vidya reviews (apparently, gameranx on JouTube is one).

I've watched the entire video and it brought up some great points imo. It made me realize that I may be the type to enjoy the more objective oriented games with tons of stimuli. It also made me realize why a lot of certain live streamers have this laid back, non reactive vibe to them when gaming whenever you're watching something that you know is supposed to provoke reactions.
I think when it comes to vidya game ranking discussion, it should be categorized by genre / target audience. The worst part about finding what games you'd like to play is that you just have to go off of the vibes of what you'd expect. You can't get spoiled because that'll ruin the game--and even if you do, you may not like it, but would've otherwise enjoyed it if you have experienced it.
So the real question at the end of the day is, how do you go about buying games with the certainty that you end up enjoying it?
