Could it be that Zesto is kind of like Jesus, in that getting crucified was part of his performance art? If Jesus had just died a natural death, then it would’ve seemed anticlimactic. He had to become a martyr so that people could complain forever about how awful and unfair it was that he got crucified. It was God’s will that he be killed so that all of man’s sins could be forgiven; yet at the same time, it was also sinful to crucify him (or else there would’ve been no need for say, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.”)
Jesus said it was totally within his power to keep himself from being crucified. (“Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?”)
Similarly, Zesto could’ve asked rhetorically, “Thinkest thou that I cannot simply refrain from posting weeb stuff 24/7 and creating new alts after they said to quit doing that?” But then he couldn’t have become a martyr to weebdom.
At the same time, though, if people didn’t complain about his getting banned, then it would be like they weren’t paying adequate tribute to his contributions. “Free Zesto” is just a meme, given that he pretty much got banned on purpose. He would probably be doing the same stuff if he came back.
