China spanked the USA pretty badly in the Korean war without much of an air force or heavy tanks.

India released their casualty figures. China covered theirs up - India suffered probably around 20 dead - China probably suffered around 100. Then when things hotted up India dispatched their best troops including the Punjab regiment, the Bihar regiment and the Ladakh scouts who are experts in mountain warfare. China couldn't respond in kind and backed off.
The Chinese are bullies but they are a paper tiger. They couldn't even beat Vietnam in 1979 and most of their combat experience gained from that war has since retired from the PLA. In private the Russians rate the Pakistani army as more professional than the PLA.
The US forces were caught off guard by the Chinese. General MacArthurs plan to nuke China would have worked but the politicians cucked out. The UN forces were able to blunt the Chinese offensive and turn the tide which is why they sued for peace.
The Indian military is more professional and has more combat experience than the PLA. Any successes the PLA would have would be quickly reversed when the Chinks actually went up against one of the front line combat regiments like the Punjab regiment the war would be over. Total rout for the Chinks just like Pakistan in 1965 and 1971.
