HOUSTON — Houston Police released body cam and doorbell video of an officer-involved shooting in which a suspect ran over a Harris County Precinct 1 deputy.

The shooting took place Wednesday September 1 during a confrontation with Harris County Precinct 1 deputies and Houston police.

Harris County Precinct 1 deputies received reports of a man ramming into other vehicles with a stolen SUV following a confrontation with family members in a church parking lot.

When deputies located the suspect, identified as 39-year-old Omar Hernandez Lazano, they spotted him driving the wrong way down Hardy Toll Road.

When deputies attempted to pull him over, Lozano sped off and led deputies on a 20-minute chase.

The Harris County Precinct 1 Constable’s Office requested assistance from the Houston Police Department and several HPD patrol units assisted in the pursuit.

At around 10:20pm, Lazano pulled into the front yard of a home in the 1200 block of Mitchell and backed up into the driveway, crashing into the residence.

Ring doorbell video shows deputies surround the vehicle while shouting at Lozano, ordering him to get out of the car.

Instead, Lozano then drove forward, running over one of the deputies and dragging him for about 20 feet, according to the footage and police.

Lozano then crashed into a patrol vehicle blocking his path.

Five Precinct 1 constable deputies and one Houston police officer then shot Lozano who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A Precinct 1 constable sergeant was also struck in the leg by a ricocheted bullet during the shootout and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

The deputy constable who was run over was taken to a nearby hospital in stable condition. He is currently undergoing treatment for his injuries at a long-term recovery facility.

The shooting remains under investigation at this time.
