Common house hold pets like dogs and cats went through artificial selection where they were specifically selected for based upon traits considers desirable by humans, which is why we tend to find puppies and kittens very cute. I'm guessing the whole dog obsession is a way of redirecting and satisfying their motherly/nurturing instincts now that women are having significantly less children than historically and at much later ages. The sexual aspects probably kicked due to some psychological reasons as foids have grown much closer and reliant upon dogs. It started slowly, with first letting their dogs sleep in the same beds as them, then kissing them on their mouths, to eventually a spontaneous impulse that lead to the brutal reality of the dogpill. From that point, foids started anonymously sharing their experiences online, talking about how great it was, which has caused this disgusting behavior to spread and is the stage we're at now
