Serious Can someone explain to me how King Von & O-Block became a mainstream meme?

As I’ve stated before, I don’t use the normie side of social media. Anyway, title. When I check monthly Spotify listeners for any Chicago drill rapper other than Chief Keef, Durk, Von, or Herbo, it’s always below 1 million, which makes me think this has nothing to do with the music. I know this probably has to do with the general trend of “hood irony” becoming big on TikTok, but I want to know the origin of how this in particular became a meme

@Left4DeadNiggerboy @Adolf Kitler @Biowaste Removal

O block is the Jerusalem of The middle east that is The United States.

But I think it's just a meme about the sheer immorality and cruelty of King Von which has immortalized him as a quasi-spiritual figure as he is burning in hell but idk, that's my guess.

I don’t think most people know the lore behind him though. Considering, as I mentioned, no Chiraq rapper besides Von, Sosa, Durk, or Herbo pulls more than even 1m monthly listeners on Spotify. I’m highly doubtful that many people outside of hood niggas and weird internet spaces like that chiraqology subsoyddit follow the beef in the Chicago drill scene.

Von also wasn’t that brutal, he just shot people. Plenty of thug nigs in the US do that, you’d expect some cartel sicario to become an internet meme for their sheer brutality, not King Von

The YN meme going viral as well. Before it was NBA Youngboy, before that it was XXXTentacion

So basically every few years there's this new "YN" that everybody makes a meme out of because they're a wild crash out killER who just happened to make good music

X was already very mainstream prior to his death though. YB I guess might be a similar case to Von with the “yb better” spams, if that’s what you’re referring to.

I recall Von being not that mainstream prior to his death. I mean he was pretty popular, but largely among thugmaxxers only. Normies didn’t care for him until he died, but even then I never saw him get as much attention in 2020-2021 as he’s getting now

Did O-block become a meme because of Roblox? I’ve seen a bunch of O-block related memes involving some weird Roblox rp game

Normies mostly use him and OBlock as a joke still.

They don't really listen to his music, they just joke about it like "dark humor" because he was a serial killer. The same way they joke about Jeffry Dahmer and whatnot

I see. Did some vids about the Chicago gang lore go super viral or something?

I barely use youtube nowadays, and I only watch a few channels like Synthetic Man and Survive The Jive.

I’m honestly surprised if that many normies are invested in this gang lore, ‘cause the opposition artists and even other BDs that aren’t Von, Sosa, or Durk barely pull any listeners at all. Even Brooklyn, Bronx, and Jacksonville drill rappers typically have like 2 million monthly spotify listeners AT MAX. It would be weird if normies are following the beefs but not listening to the music

They're not really following it per se, like I said multiple times in this thread, they are just memeing it for the sake of being funny

I see. So I guess they’re just mindlessly repeating it like they do a lot of other things. Should’ve expected as much.

Still, I’m curious as to how and where the joke started. Like what was the original meme or thing that kicked it off?
