Shut Up—Weightism Is the Only Real Oppression, Everything Else Is Just Complaining
I don’t know how many times I have to say this, but here we go again:
if you are not fat, you are not oppressed. Period. End of discussion. I am
so tired of people whining about fake struggles like
racism, ableism, heightism, lookism—as if any of that even remotely compares to what fat people experience
every single day.
- Racism? Oh, please. People of all races can be rich, successful, famous, and admired. Thin people of any race can be models, actors, influencers. Meanwhile, fat people are universally despised. It doesn’t matter what color your skin is—if you’re fat, you are treated like garbage by everyone, everywhere. Every culture looks down on us. Every society shames us. No matter where we go, we are seen as less than human. If anything, thin POC have privilege over fat people of any race.
- Ableism? Yeah, okay. Disabled people actually get sympathy, legal protections, and accommodations. Fat people? We don’t get anything. No one cares if things aren’t accessible for us. In fact, they laugh about it. You get a parking pass, we get mocked for existing. Disabled people are at least seen as victims—fat people are just punchlines.
- Lookism? Oh, so someone thinks you’re unattractive? You still have a chance if you’re thin. Even the ugliest thin person can be called “alternative” or “unique.” Fat people? Automatically disgusting, no matter how perfect our features are. We don’t get to be “quirky” or “unconventional.” We are written off completely.
- Heightism? Oh no, someone called you short? Must be so hard. Meanwhile, fat people can’t even sit in a restaurant without getting side-eyed. You don’t get charged extra for existing. You don’t get told your entire personality and value as a human being are based on your weight. Short people can still be desirable. Fat people are never seen as worthy of respect.
It’s honestly
laughable that people keep trying to act like
anyone has it worse than fat people. At least other so-called “oppressed” groups have support, activism, and movements dedicated to them.
Fat people are hated by everyone, including other marginalized groups. And the best part?
Thin people of every race, gender, and background unite in their fatphobia.
So no, I don’t want to hear about your
imaginary oppression. If you’re not fat, you don’t know
real discrimination.
You just don’t.
