Once the cake is eaten, it is gone. It can be used to say that one cannot have two incompatible things, or that one should not try to have more than is reasonable. The proverb's meaning is similar to the phrases "you can't have it both ways" and "you can't have the best of both worlds."

Cakemaxxing: Foids want it every which way, with more cakes than a fully stocked bakers shop. Why embrace monogamy when you can be an A-grade slut for 10 years and then lock down a man you know 1) will remain faithful, and 2) provide you with resources chad couldn't, no questions asked.
