[They] see themselves as inferior to the expat settlers.
When expats are served by locals in bars and restaurants, the locals treat them like royalty...
Expats (whom the locals call Bules) in Bali are basically the ruling class.
They’re young, usually 18–40, very physically fit..., beautiful (the percentage of Bule men and women that are objectively hot is off the charts), wealthy, and live easy lifestyles.
While the locals live in small studio apartments, Bules live in lavish villas that the locals couldn’t dream of affording. Bules often don’t need to work for months at a time, and they’re worldly in a way the locals just aren’t.
Another thing to note is that Bules are usually very confident and outgoing, a stark contrast to the shy and reserved personalities of the locals.
Also, they’re fun and exciting, have wild parties, and live lives most locals never will.
The relationship between the locals and Bules in Bali is like that of a ruling class and their servants.
Bule men date local women, but Bule women almost never date local men
Something interesting to note about life in Bali is that local women can and do date Bule men if they’re hot enough, while local men almost never date Bule women. For the local men, Bule women are like the ultimate prize. They’re the object of fantasy, foreign goddesses who would never dream of looking in their direction.
...99% of Bule women would never touch a local man. I’ve had conversations with Bule women who’ve said it to my face...
Bule men, however, do date local girls. In fact, the hotter a local girl is, the more likely she is to date Bule men exclusively.
She’ll even have wild and uninhibited sex, the likes of which most of her local male counterparts would never be able to provide. I’m serious about that, by the way. I’ve had several local women tell me that sex with Bule men is way better than with the local men. Sad but true.
Bule women have little reason to want to date locals over other Bules. They’re not Westernised, are desperately poor, usually out of shape or skinny, shy, feel inferior to Bules, and have little to offer.
Local men often don’t have the confidence to even look Bule women in the eyes outside of a server and servant context.
This infuriates the local men because they know they can’t compete with what Bule men bring to the table.
Remember the article about the Balinese sex party I went to? The staff were local men, the guests were Bules and the only local who attended as a guest was a woman.

Life in Bali Proves a Hard Truth About Women That Society Won’t Admit
If you’ve been following me for a while, you’ll know I have a habit of saying controversial truths that fly in the face of what’s politically correct, and you know what? I’m conflicted when I do it.Honestly, a part of me derives true pleasure from eviscerating bullshit and tearing people’s illusions to shreds. But there’s also another part of me that thinks:
But against my better judgement, the eviscerating side of my psyche wins out almost every time and says a massive:Dude, why the fuck are you saying this? Just go with the crowd and STFU. Let the bullshit stand. Don’t open yourself up to attacks.
To any potential backlash from having the temerity to tell the unflinching truth. And you know what? Today is one of those days because, as the title says, life in Bali proves a profoundly uncomfortable truth about women that society refuses to admit.Fuck you!
But what truth is that?
- That women date up while men date down
- That women are universally attracted to status, and the lifestyles men can provide
- That this can be seen in all cultures from around the world, meaning it’s almost undoubtedly genetic in nature
Bali is a fascinating place
I’m massively oversimplifying it, but Bali has two types of people: the local Indonesian populace and the expat settlers. The locals
The Balinese locals are a sweet, but ultimately shy and desperately poor people. It’s not uncommon for them to earn about $150 per month for 9 hours of work per day, six days per week, and most barely speak English.Even those who do aren’t Westernised and would struggle to survive in any major world city from Tokyo to London to New York. They’re simple people who mainly live in villages and see themselves as inferior to the expat settlers.
When expats are served by locals in bars and restaurants, the locals treat them like royalty, partly due to the power differential I’m about to explain in this article.
The expats (Bules)
Expats (whom the locals call Bules) in Bali are basically the ruling class. They take Western salaries into a country with such a low GDP that they become almost millionaires overnight. They’re young, usually 18–40, very physically fit (CrossFit and yoga are hugely popular), beautiful (the percentage of Bule men and women that are objectively hot is off the charts), wealthy, and live easy lifestyles.
While the locals live in small studio apartments, Bules (pronounced boolay) live in lavish villas that the locals couldn’t dream of affording. Due to how cheap the country is, Bules often don’t need to work for months at a time, and they’re worldly in a way the locals just aren’t.
Another thing to note is that Bules are usually very confident and outgoing, a stark contrast to the shy and reserved personalities of the locals. Bules travel worldwide while most locals have never left the island of Bali, let alone Indonesia.
Also, they’re fun and exciting, have wild parties, and live lives most locals never will.
The relationship between the locals and Bules in Bali is like that of a ruling class and their servants. Outside of bars, restaurants, and various shops staffed by locals, the two groups have entirely different social circles and seldom interact.
This is somewhat sad, to be honest, but it is the truth. There’s a disconnect between the Bules and the locals.
And you know what? It’s with good reason because 99% of Bule women would never touch a local man. I’ve had conversations with Bule women who’ve said it to my face, but it’s painfully apparent even if I hadn’t.
Bule men, however, do date local girls. In fact, the hotter a local girl is, the more likely she is to date Bule men exclusively. There’s a phrase locals have for those women called ‘Bule lover’, which refers to the kind of local girl who only wants to date Bules and, as you can probably imagine, isn’t meant as a compliment.
It’s not even slightly uncommon to see Bule men with local girlfriends in Bali, while you almost never see the reverse. It’s practically unheard of to see Bule women with local men. It happens rarely, but nowhere near as often as the other way around.
Men date down, and women date up
So here’s the thing. Local and Bule women both want to date up, but only the local girl can possibly do that with a local man. On the flip side, local and Bule men both like to date down, but Bule men are way more likely to do that with local girls. As a Bule, I can date a local and introduce her to a world she’s never before experienced. She can eat at expensive restaurants she’s seen only from the outside but never dared to enter. She can live in luxurious settings leagues above her humble origins. She can travel the world without having to work.
However, Bule men (like all men) are less concerned with the lifestyles women can provide and are more focused on physical beauty, which levels the playing field for local girls. They can expect to sleep with and potentially date Bule men if they speak good English and are good-looking.
However, they do find it harder to keep them than Bule women do. That said, the most beautiful and westernised local women can and do consistently attract and date Bule men with no problems whatsoever.
This infuriates the local men because they know they can’t compete with what Bule men bring to the table.
But, you know what? Life’s not fair. And it is what it is.
Women date across and up, while men date across and down. Race and culture had nothing to do with it. It’s just an unavoidable fact of life.
I Went to an Elite Sex Party in Bali. This is What Happened
A story as sensual as it is factual.
medium.comRemember the article about the Balinese sex party I went to? The staff were local men, the guests were Bules and the only local who attended as a guest was a woman.
I’m telling you now that those men wished they could have done the same thing.
Ciao for now.
Excelsior!
