Backstory
Born Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot, the Penguin was bullied as a child for his short stature, weight, way of walking, and beak-like nose. Several stories relate that he was forced, as a child, to always carry an umbrella by his overprotective mother due to his father dying of bronchial pneumonia from refusing to take one while going out in the rain. His parents owned a bird shop, where Cobblepot spent most of his time with the birds, seeing them as his only friends, and lavishing them with attention. His love of birds would eventually lead him to study ornithology in college – only to find out that he knew more about birds than most of his professors did. In some versions, Cobblepot turns to crime after his mother dies and the bird shop, along with all of her birds, is repossessed to pay her debts.[5] In others, he is an outcast in his high-society family and their rejection drives him to become a criminal. In keeping with his aristocratic origins, the Penguin pursues his criminal career while wearing formal attire such as a top hat, monocle, and tuxedo, especially of the "white-tie-and-tails" design. He is one of the relatively few villains in Batman's rogues gallery who is sane and in full control of his actions, although still ruthless and capable of extreme violence. He is also highly intelligent and can even match wits with Batman, in some cases using his access to information and business connections to assist the vigilante. Batman once admitted the Penguin is smarter than he is.[6]

Wtf this penguin nigga has a more sympathetic story than the actual main character. Funny being bullied for being short and non NT isn’t sympathetic to normies

Funny being bullied for being short and non NT isn’t sympathetic to normies
Because normies are the ones doing the bullying. It's easier for them to vilify the person being bullied instead. This is why the napoleon complex stereotype exists. Instead of simply treating short ugly autists better in the first place, soyciety would rather vilify the reaction towards the bullying. That way, the bullying is justified.

fuck super relatable

Half of Batman's rouges gallery is made up of bullied incels.

Penguin appears in a mere five episodes of Batman TAS and after being sent to jail attempts to go straight.

This is when "Birds of a Feather" happens, introducing the character of Veronica Vreeland.

She completely fucks up Penguin's attempt to go straight by emotionally traumatizing him.

She apologizes to him in the end (saying she was beginning to like him) but you're really left wonder if this is genuine remorse or just a lie to save her own skin because she knows he might break out of jail to get revenge on her.

If Vreeland had just genuinely shown him affection instead of toying with him for lulz, pretty sure penguin would be a happily adjusted defender of truth and justice in Gotham.

I would recommend anyone who hasn't seen this recently to watch this, it's one of the better TAS episodes related to us IMO.

yeah both Hatter and Penguin were pretty good examples of this in the first season

One of the interesting things about Bruce/Bat is how the "Batman voice" he uses in the field is basically his REAL voice.

You see this in one ep when he's speaking on the phone to someone as "Bruce Wayne" and then as soon as he hangs up the phone you hear him drop his squeaky playboy voice into his vigilante timber when speaking to Alfred.

Alfred knows who he is so there's no reason to disguise his voice - he's basically just letting his Bruce persona drop and (though not dressed in the suit) is speaking to Alfred as Batman, who he really is.

If not for scenes like this you might think he just puts on the voice to be scary or some bullshit, but he's not - he doesn't want to scare Alfred, that's literally just his natural voice because he's so chronically depressed he talks in an autistic monotone.

I can kinda relate TBH, when I'm tired and can't make the effort and struggling to communicate, I talk like Batman, I only put on a Bruce-like voice when I'm trying to put on airs around others.
