I believe for a lot of these guys its a "cry for help" more than they seriously planned on committing crimes, because if planned on doing something you would be smart about it, they really just want to get caught, a serious incel would have done some damage before even getting caught

The average person has at least basic knowledge of doing something like this will put you on the radar just from watching crime based TV shows, its hard to believe this guy hasn't seen a single show or a movie that was related to something like this

No, that'd be MI-5. GCHQ spies on your internet and electronic traffic. If you've been flagged, then they inform 5 about a possible domestic threat, who opens a file on you. Then it's the traditional surveillance and intelligence gathering, which most likely will involve bugging your place (especially if you regularly have visitors).

This keeps going until some period of time where the boss of the officer in charge of your file (or the officer themselves) decides either that you're not a threat and they look elsewhere, or you are one and it keeps going until there's enough evidence to arrest you. If they're watching you, I suggest trolling them and wasting their time and resources, but only if there isn't anybody else whose life you're worried about inconveniecing (friend, family member).

I have a home control system and a couple of devices which could function as bug without the need for traditional surveillance. Wouldn't be surprised if Alexa or Google Home records audio and sends it off to intelligence agencies to scan for certain keywords.

The products likely have NSA code embedded into them. The NSA has a back channel to those companies and can retrieve any data they need without going through red tape, thanks to the US patriot act. The UK has more reach, and has had it for a long time. But it's all the same shit, it's all part of the five eyes.
