With the entire world acting as one big 
echo chamber. People ape and parrot what they themselves like to hear, and tend to either ignore or vilify anything that falls outside their self-imposed narrow margins of acceptability.
New ideas may enter the public discourse once in a while, of course; but it's a painfully slow process. Romantic love, for instance, took over seven centuries to filter down from the courtly literature intended for princesses and dukes into an ideal held by almost all citizens of Western democracies. It will perhaps take just as long to dislodge romantic love from its place within the normie mindset.
No grand conspiracies, gentlemen; just human nature as it has always been.
