Discussion Best web browsers that respect your privacy?

are you fucking serious i just started using firefox again recently

I'm guessing it would be Tor, as long as you don't mind the loading speed.

Tor is very private, but not very good for day to day usage.
Floorp and LibreWolf, in that order, beat it in UI and ease of use, though LibreWolf is far more private.

ya Tor is ridiculosity slow almost to the point where it's unusable if your just regularly using the web

Yeah me too kind of.

I switched to Linux and stuck with FF because it's the default on all the major Linux distros I think.

But this is concerning and it makes me wonder if that might change.

I use Floorp even though it always needs some update

That or Brave, whatever works to stop Jew ads

I'll probably keep Firefox on my phone and PC too and if this turns out to not be a big deal then I can always switch back.

You have to really dig around in Firefox to disabled all the crap...

Brave is best rn
(But you still have to turn off a lot of crap)

Feds probably watching this thread

Interestingly (at least to me!) Linux Mint and MX Linux both still use FF by default.

I didn't bother checking any other distros because those are the main two I follow but that shows they must still have some faith in it.

I'll definitely consider switching back if the whole thing turns out to not be a big deal. :feelsStudy:

Just get off of this honeypot forum and give up the internet completely theory

I actually deleted firefox as soon as I saw this and switched to Brave lol

Yeah apparently looking at different blog posts and such Mozilla did respond to the backlash and apologized for the very vague wording in their terms of use. They did change a few things though but for now I'll hold off on using any Firefox forks for the time being because I wanna save a bit of storage space plus I don't mind if they collect a bit of aggregate data if it means that sites work better with it.

Brave is pretty good I think ^_^

I mean, it's not like I moved far, lol

Waterfox on my phone and LibreWolf on my PC.

And I've kept FF on both in case it feels logical to switch back.

But yeah probably it's not a huge deal, idk.

Firefox new TOS (or TOU I guess) - Linux Mint Forums

Watching youtube is so easy with it. Obviously it is not the most secure one but for normal activities it beats just about everything.

It seems to me like the engines with the most hype are Blink (Chromium, etc), WebKit (Safari and others), Gecko (Firefox, LibreWolf, etc) and LibWeb (Ladybird).

I'm tempted to add Goanna (kind of old-school Gecko) but I'm not sure if it's being maintained to a standard that can handle the modern web.

does privacy even matter? I'm only using firefox once my ad blocker stopped working on chrome idk about librewolf or waterfox tho

I mean, it bothers me if my own browser is claiming any degree of ownership or usage rights over files that I upload through it.

It's absolutely 100% none of Mozilla's business what I upload or download through Firefox - it's absurd if they think otherwise IMO.

true, but I don't think they are and are probably trying to rectify some issues with their TOS.

collects lots of shit about you basically as bad as chrome

Hm. Are there any other major ones you defend other than Firefox? heh :)

I like FF, Brave, Opera... Vivaldi is OK. And some others.

But yeah I've pivoted to these others like LibreWolf at least until the FF ToS controversy calms down and I can clearly see what's going on.

all browsers do lets be real, at least opera is chink based, i dont think china cares about my data as much as jews

I'm really more concerned about the company thinking they now have a license to my data, which could be awful for any kind of creative works.

I don't agree that all browsers collect your data...

Maybe all the major ones though.

Brave is good, for a chromium based browser especially with built in adblocking is amazing.

Brave and Tor

Brave and Tor
I wouldn't use tor outside of accessing onion services, most if all websites block or heavily restrict tor exit nodes besides porn ones or smaller communities like this one.

Otherwise, check into i2p.

I never get the concern over privacy

I don't want Mozilla or Google claiming ownership of any kind over files I send or spying on what I do with the browser, you know?

That's just weird. That would be like getting Microsoft Word back in the day and MS claiming they own all your documents or something! Crazy.

Especially if you are using an older version of the browser. It's not uncommon for it to lose connection and stop loading certain websites for no apparent reason.

Started using firefox instead of chrome and I'm really not impressed. Thinking about switching to brave

Other than this privacy/politics stuff, what didn't you like about FF?

I find it pretty solid. LibreWolf and Waterfox are similar but a bit more buggy lol

Brave... it's good. A bit bloated with "features" and I don't like the big tech and normie codebase of Chromium/Blink, but other than that it's good.

You probably shouldn't use an older version of the browser like at all, ESPECIALLY when going on onion sites because they can just be riddled with vulnerabilities that are already patched even with noscript active.

For starters, a lot of the basic features that I had on chrome don't work the same on FF. I can't search for images or translate a webpage without plugins, which I wouldn't mind except for the fact that they slow down my browser. I also don't care for the history tab being a sidebar, I find it inconvenient to navigate. The homepage also isn't brilliant.

It's not a horrible browser, there's just little quality of life things that get on my nerves after awhile. I'm not at all tech-savvy so I'm sure there's workarounds for most of my issues.

I'm trying to boycott Google as much as possible because (well, for one, big tech) but also their ridiculous tendency to change completely functional features for the sake of change. That "Google Lens" thing infuriates me, as well as all the AI features they shove down people's throats.
What features in particular are bad about brave though?
