property tax in my state is less than 1%. You can pay that easily if you actually try.  On a $400,000 home it would be a little less than $3000 bucks

Its like that in the US too. Some STEM jobs also have above average starting salaries but they flatten out really quickly since theres no room to move up the ranks.
