5/10 (Average) faces aren't attractive. Statistically average facial *features* are attractive. Not too small, not too large, but average sized. All of the white guys in that collage are 6.5-7/10.

Eyes not too close together, proportionate.
Mandible not too wide / too narrow, proportionate.
Hairline not too high or too low, proportionate.
So a long or short maxilla is less attractive than a proportionate one
Short / long midface is less attractive than a proportionate one
It's all about facial balance.

I think the point of this experiment was to show that by combining all these uglyish average faces, the negative traits are diluted, or even removed entirely, because everyone has different flaws. You end up with an 8/10 face because only the man primary features are left.
For example, if you add 2 asymmetrical faces together, they cancel out and you end up with one symmetrical face.
