I try to be nice because I don't want to be hypocritical and being smug is more fun than being mean. I also do it so if someone is being mean to me I know its not just them retaliating to me being rude as fuck in the first place.

If you mean by nice guy guys that have no ego, are not egoistic at all and try to please everyone and don't state their opinion because they don't want to offend anybody, then I'm the opposite of a nice guy.
