Are sniffs IODs?

Since I was 16 or so I started hearing people loudly sniffing around, its not just sniff sniff, it's a loud one sniiiiiiifff. Like that sniff when u cringe or some shit. Is this is some sort of body language like when they get disgusted by you they sniff loudly? Indication of disgust? They even do that in summer.. their noses are not running, why do they do that one loud sniff?

If it's more like they are trying to smell, you either stink or smell good, look for their following facial mimic.

Lots of people have allergies these days though. The nose doesn't even have to be visibly running.

It's hard to differentiate ngl.
