Ive been using my android phone and craptop since 2021 and its still working fine with no obvious fault

Did it's battery life suddenly get worse after a year?
No. Stayed great till like 2 years and just very slowly declined. Battery health is currently 79% what it was when new, so it is getting worse.
But I have experience with cars and other stuff, so I know batteries inevitably wear out just like anything else. So I don’t believe there is any secret battery reducing program in the phone
depends how you use them and how lucky you're with getting defective units
I remember like 10 years ago budget Android smartphones were dogshit that lagged out of the box, now for 250-300 dollars you can get smartphone that has enough performance and will last you like 4 years at least, i still use Redmi Note 10 Pro and plan to use it till 2026 at least.
What i don't recommend is to use fast chargers like 30W and higher, they cause higher temperatures on the battery so it will degrade it faster, it's not a problem for richfags though, they can change smartphones every year.
If they made smartphones with replaceable batteries and sold original batteries for customers, you could buy some 600 dollar smartphone and keep it for 5 years with no issue, for example Snapdragon 860 released around 5 years ago, even today it's pretty fast with everyday tasks, today SoC are very powerful, something like Snapdragon 8 Elite is crazy fast.

I use a laptop that is over 15 years old, my last desktop PC lasted from 2012 to 2022, but it's only the graphics card that died in it (GTX 670), it will work fine if I get a new graphics card. I could still play simple games made after 2020 on it. PCs last really long now as long as you don't care about the newest unoptimized AAA-slop.
Could be, i've been using my current smartphone since early 2022. None of my other ones ever lasted this long.

They’ll probably last about 8 or 9 years before they can’t keep up with tue software updates anymore
