The vast majority of white Americans are Germans. But why do so few Americans identify with the place of origin of their ancestors?
As if being an American of German descent is more embarrassing than being an American of Irish descent or an American of English descent.
Even Trump was ashamed of his German-ness, so he said that he was of Swedish descent.
But for decades, Trump denied this German heritage altogether, instead claiming that his grandfather’s roots lay further north, in Scandinavia. “[He] came here from Sweden as a child,” Trump asserted in his co-written book The Art of the Deal.

Is the anti-German histery of the First World War to blame for this, when Germans were beaten in the streets, everything connected with Germany was dismantled, and people themselves were forced to Anglify their first and last names as a sign of loyalty to the United States.

We need to bring back pride in our German heritage. The only thing I’m proud of about my family is our Germanic last name. We need to fight back and come back to our former glory. After all, we are the last group to stand up to Satan(jews) in a meaningful way.

But as if there is an unspoken taboo that it is possible to be proud of Irish descent for an American, but it is no longer possible to be proud of German. Biden openly says that he is proud of his Irishness, he wore a green tie on St. Patrick's Day, traveled to Ireland and said that this is the homeland of his ancestors. Trump hid his German identity, saying that he was Swedish by birth.

Even the founding father of America, Benjamin Franklin, thought badly of all German emigrants.

Franklin warned that Germans were too stupid to learn English and therefore posed a political threat to America:

"Those who come here generally belong to the most ignorant and stupid classes of their people ... and as few Englishmen understand German, and therefore cannot address them either in the press or from the pulpit, it is almost impossible to eradicate the prejudices they once harbored...Unaccustomed to freedom, they do not know how to use it...I remember how they modestly refused to interfere in our elections, but now they come in droves and take everything with them except one or two counties. ...In short, unless the flood of immigrants is diverted to other colonies, as you very sensibly suggest, they will soon so greatly outnumber us that, in my opinion, all our advantages will fail to preserve our language, and even our government will be endangered.

Ben Franklin's other objection to German immigrants was their "swarthy skin," which offended the "pure white people" who originally settled America:

Why should Pennsylvania, founded by the English, become a colony of foreigners, who would soon become so numerous that they would Germanize us instead of us Germanizing them, and would never adopt our language or customs, any more than they could adopt our skin color.

Nope most of America is Anglo ethnicity but the second largest ethnic group is German accounting to 20%

Sad

Yes and itll only happen when you get rid of the Anglo institutions and structure.

They aren't, they’re just not as vocal about their ancestry as Italian-Americans or Irish-Americans are. My father is of German descent and is proud of it, as I am too. You don’t really see many English-Americans bragging about their ancestry either. They usually just identify as "American" and nothing else.

Yes, I just asked this question after I came across this fact in Trump's biography, that he called himself a Swede by origin, and he was German, so I was interested in it, especially considering that Biden literally screams about his Irishness.
