really good NGO's are super-professional and there's just not a lot of politics not a lot of bullshit. the desperation for volunteers creates and environment where i think they try and limit things that would prevent anyone from wanting to come. you can be literally autistic a good NGO will literally just have you making sandwiches for other volunteers they just need more people.

well the guy we worked with was smuggled out of China on his way to a prison which in fairness he never actually saw. his son had actually been to prison but they know some rich south asian people so we gave them funding and got his son out a few weeks later. the son doesn't talk much but he described the prison as being pretty bad
