Discussion Anyone else tired of all the constant female protagonists in gaming?

I feel like there are way too many these days.

It used to be the case that most protagonists were male and now it seems that most are female.

Playing a female character from time-to-time is fine but not in every single game, which seems to be the case at the moment.

I'll make a poll about this I think!

I hate foids so I usually go ER on them in games.

I played them for a while. It was interesting at first because it was something a bit different.

But now the novelty has worn off and... I'm a guy. I don't want to keep playing as women all the time.

So yeah I might make a rule now that I'll only play a game if it either has a male protagonist or you make your own character.

Don't play modern games so no idea. But yeah globohomo is pusshing too much strong independent woman narrative in movies and shows which is annoying. Which is why I've stopped watching them too. If there's a whiff of pc bs, I avoid it

I mainly play indie games... and mostly ones that are quite basic-looking, such as 8-bit style, 16-bit, things like that.

I don't really bother with mainstream games because it's all so politicised and it costs so much to keep up with the hardware anyway. It doesn't really seem worth it. Plus the downloads and updates are HUGE!

Yes especially in western ones. Jap ones still have it too but only for specific niches.

I actually prefer female leads. For example I've never played a Uncharted game but played almost all the Tomb Raider games
In RPGs I'd usually play the female character. Especially Japanese or Korean RPGs where I can make them sexy and pretty

Another slight example would be Resident Evil. Chris is cool and all but I'd rather play Jill

most of the time i can successfully ignore the fact that it's a female tbh, like Metroid, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Control, etc.
