I still can't shake off the touch of modernity in newer slice of life anime. Anime like Clannad, Air, and even the slice-of-life parts of NGE, set in the pre-internet, pre-cellphone era give me warmest feelings followed by a lump in my throat.

There's an anime from that era called "Nana" where one of the protags doesn't know who her kid's father is. That's foids version of slice of life where it's rifed with manipulation, ho-fantasy, chad-chasing, and consumerism.

With the touch modernity, all of these things invade us much earlier in life now. A prominent example is "Your Name" where the foid protagonist's goal is to become a goyslop consuming wagie.
