As I've mentioned before, we've traced our ancestry back quite a bit like most here
On my mothers side, we had some who fought in the Union army. On my dads, we don't have it confirmed fully, but we did see records of some distant ancestors in Virginia and Kentucky. We for sure know we weren't aristocrats whom constituted the slave-owning class, and we do know of some Scots-Irish roots there. Problem was, that region during the conflict was very divided, and the reason for West Virginia existing is because that part of the State stayed with the Union.
it feels kinda odd I have family who likely engaged on both sides, but ofc that was quite common: I mean, it was a "house divided" after all.
