they were not expected to contribute to society not because they were seen as inferior, but because they were seen as precious queens that should be protected and sheltered by the ills of society. they were infantalized and thats not a bad thing. they couldnt vote or be in political power, not because they were oppressed but because political jobs were seen as too much for them to deal with. they were still treated like precious xueens then just in a different way. sure they couldnt do much if they faced domestic abuse, but what the average man had to deal with everyday at the time was wayyy worse, and the foid was able to just poison him and get away with it since that was common as well at the time
