When there is a series I want to know, I prefer to start from the beginning. Even if I am more interested in newer stuff, I feel like something is forcing me to start from the earliest entries.
For example, in video games, I won't play Final Fantasy 6 or 7—games that are considered better than the original NES games—before I play the original ones.
In TV shows, I won't watch Star Trek: The Next Generation, which is considered better than the original series (and isn't even directly connected to it), before watching the original.
The worst thing is with music. Before I listen to a certain music artist, I feel the need to listen to the music they originated from. For example, I can't listen to more folk metal bands because this genre originated from black metal (which originated from the first wave of black metal from the ’80s) and early folk metal bands like Skyclad (which originated from the thrash metal band Sabbat).
