Tonight we are charging a woman with conspiracy to murder a man in Birmingham in 2019, after she was extradited from Armenia.
US citizen Aimee Betro, aged 45, was flown into Gatwick Airport on Thursday afternoon by specialist National Extradition Unit officers from the National Crime Agency’s (NCA) Joint International Crime Centre (JICC).
She was transported to the West Midlands where she was also being charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.
She was also being charged in relation to the alleged importation of ammunition into the UK, as part of a Derbyshire Constabulary investigation.
Betro, who was extradited after being arrested in Armenia last Summer, is due to appear before Birmingham magistrates on Friday.
It follows an incident in South Yardley in September 2019 where a man was threatened with a firearm.
The weapon jammed, allowing him to escape.
Last year, two men were jailed for conspiracy to murder after being convicted at trial.
We have been working with the Crown Prosecution Service, Derbyshire Constabulary and the NCA to extradite Betro since her arrest.
