AITA for asking my wife (rhetorically) if she's "showermaxxing"?
(Thorwaway) I (20M) have been married to my wife (22F) for around 2 years. She has always struggled with mental health, and recently, it’s been particularly tough for her due to school stress. I’ve encouraged her to consider therapy, but she’s not been very open to it. Lately, she’s been spending hours—sometimes up to 8 a day—on Reddit, scrolling nonstop and not moving much. As part of this, she’s picked up some internet slang I’m not very familiar with. Today, I suggested she get up and try to get a bit of exercise, but she said she was “bed rotting” and “mental health maxxing” by staying on Reddit. In response, I (kind of jokingly) asked if she could start “shower maxxing” instead. It wasn’t meant to be mean; I just thought it might nudge her in a lighthearted way. Well, she got extremely upset. She started crying and was inconsolable for over an hour. I tried to apologize and explain I wasn’t trying to be cruel, but she wouldn’t hear it. Now I feel awful for upsetting her, but I’m also confused because I didn’t think it was that big of a deal. So, AITA?
