Unless CAPTCHAs somehow get really strong to keep bots out, I can't see how anyone could take anonymous discussion forums seriously once text generation reaches the point where you can never discern with complete confidence humans and bots apart. My personal feeling is that it's demoralising and tiring to participate in discussions where you're constantly doubting whether the text you're reading is output of a real person.
This will only embolden the foothold of personalized, controlled and camera-centric social media once legitimate-looking accounts of real people with photos and videos from the real world will be the only reliable indicator of a real person operating behind the screen.
However, one could have some optimism that AI advancement will also benefit the measures to detect bots to provide means to safeguard bot-vulnerable parts of the web.
