Disclaimer: I am not an Incel. I am married and have two daughters, so I am not one of the "Kissless Hugless Handholdless Virgins" or KHHV for short that characterize their subreddit.
When I first heard about them I thought they were just a bunch of overweight unwashed men who spent all day playing video games and wondering why they couldn't get a woman. After reading their posts however, I quickly realized that a lot of what they say is true. The purpose of this post is to point out what exactly I agree with them on, as well as what I don't agree with them on.
Before I get into the points I agree with them on I will start out by saying that I will not attack them with the strawmen arguments such as that they all support Elliot Rodger. My experience reading their sub is that posters like that are in the extreme minority. Most of them are simply angry that try as they might, they just can't get a girlfriend.
Now, here is what I agree with them on.
- Looks matter more than anything else, including money. An ugly man who has a six figure income will never be able to compete with a poor man who is tall, white, and has a face like one of the Scott brothers. A good-looking man can live in a cardboard box and women will still want to date him and yes, sleep with him too. Therefore, telling men to work on their careers is tantamount to saying "you lost the genetic jackpot so go buy a woman's attention once she's slept around in her youth and the hot men no longer want her".
- All women, no matter who they are can get a man. Women never need to improve themselves to get a man. I have seen plenty of fat and ugly women with husbands and children. Most men who can't find a woman of comparable attractiveness settle and date down. Women overwhelmingly don't. That brings me to point 3.
- Women don't want commitment from ugly men. Ugly men can offer commitment until they're blue in the face but women won't care. They prefer five minutes of a hot man to five years of an ugly man. How did we get to this point? That's point 4.
- Smartphones and dating apps ruined dating by enabling women to have instant access to thousands of men in their geographic vicinity. In the past women dated more average men since they had to meet people in real life and personality actually mattered. Nowadays a woman can go on Tinder and judge men exclusively on looks.
- Self improvement is a sham. I am a 5'8 man with an above average face. I have met women who wanted to date me because of my face, but also women who rejected me because of my height. I know full well that with either group of women, no amount of self improvement or lack thereof would have changed anything. With the first group they would have dated me even if I were poor and rude to people. The second group wouldn't have dated me no matter how much money or nice clothing I owned. Either a woman finds a man attractive enough to date or not.
Now, let's hear what the people on the best subreddit have to say.
