Brother, if you are unaware, the standard deviation for height in men is around 3 inches (minimum 2.5 maximum 3.1). If the average height in any given place is 5’9, it means 6’0 is right about 1 standard deviation above the average height. There is the general mathematical rule that at 1 standard deviation above / below the average value of a given parameter, approximately 32/2 =16% of people are going to surpass you in that particular parameter. Basically, in a place where 5’9 is the average height, at 6’0 you are going to be shorter than 16% of other men. And 16% is quite a lot if you think about it. This correlates very accurately with the statistical data that in the us approximately 15-16% of men are above 6’0, and if you look up the average height in America it is going to be 5’9. That is because of this general rule :
